Cutaway Gags are a recurring feature of the show, wherein a character will mention something that happened back in the past (mostly back in D.C.) and a short flashback will appear, showing exactly what that character just said. It was a recurring feature in Season 1 but they kind of dropped it in subsequent episodes.
