"The workplace is filled with inappropriate characters. Let's meet some of them. Here we have the 'persistent Romeo'."
Dusty Nugget

"Persistent Romeo" is the fifth episode of the first season of Fresh Off the Boat. It first aired on February 17, 2015.

Synopsis[]

Louis has to hire a professional instructor to give the restaurant staff a sexual harassment seminar after Jessica's attempts fall flat. Meanwhile, Eddie tries to pass off the seminar's instructional tape as a "dirty movie" to his friends in an attempt to impress them and get them to come to his house for a sleep over.

Plot[]

This section needs a rewrite

At Abraham Lincoln Middle School, Eddie is always hearing about the crazy stories that kids are telling about their time at sleepovers, and bragging about it in front of kids who didn't get invited. But one day, his classmate Brock, invited him to a sleepover he's having with his friends Trent, and Doug. He heard about the time Eddie gave that "hug" to Honey from the block party, and it earned a bit of his respect. He even mentions to Eddie that he owns a dirty magazine, and wants to show it during the sleepover. While Eddie may be happy about this, Jessica refused to let him go. Unfortunately, Jessica has been watching a lot of "The Nightly News" and grew paranoid after every program she watched. She insisted that if Eddie wanted to go to a sleepover, it must be at their house.

Eventually, Louis comes back home with some exciting news. Cattleman's Ranch is now completely filled with customers, and not a single table is left empty! Jessica is happy to hear about the news, but is also disappointed with this. She's worried that with the more money their earning, they will become a target for frauds. Not only that, their insurance wouldn't cover for certain charges, especially sexual harrassment. So she figured it's best to host a seminar at the restaurant, and teach the workers what to do to prevent this. The next day, Jessica was put in charge of teaching the workers on what to do to prevent sexual harrassment. However, she greatly made everyone uncomfortable, including Louis due to her making comments after every lecture she gives to them. Eventually, Louis had to put a stop to it and told the others to just think about what they learned.

The next day, Eddie went over to Brock and told him he couldn't come to the sleepover. But Brock didn't mind, and continued to brag to his friends about the popcorn machine and the mini-fridge he has filled with sodas. Not only that, he declined Eddie's offer to have the sleepover at his house because if it's Brock's stuff, its only at his house. So in order to save his reputation, he quickly told Brock and his friends that he had a dirty movie at home. But the problem is, he doesn't own one and has to quickly get his hands on one. So he took his brothers Emery and Evan to the video store so that way they can cause a distraction while he goes and try to steal the movie. But sadly, Brock was at the store as well and he caught him red handed. Later that day, Eddie went over to Nicole's house and asked her if she can do something random, and he can film her doing it. But she responds by closing the door on him.

Because of how uncomfortable Jessica made everyone at the seminar yesterday. Louis figured it was best to hire a professional, in order to teach the workers about sexual harrassment. He welcomes a guy named Dusty Nugget, and he admits that he used to be a big sexual harrasser in the past. But got reformed and is now helping to teach others to not become what he once was. He demonstrates some innappropriate behavior to Nancy after she got a question right and asks the others about what did he do was wrong. But that example caused Nancy to fall off her seat in shock!

That night, the Huangs were emptying out a box filled with Dusty Nugget's stuff, until Eddie comes in complaining about the snack Jessica bought him for the sleepover. But both of his parents told Eddie he will be fine and his classmates wouldn't complain. Eventually, Brock and his friends arrive at the house and immediately questioned him where the movie was. Eddie was about to confess to them the truth, but Trent found one of Dusty Nugget's VHS tapes and presumed that it was the dirty movie. Luckily, since none of them knew what a dirty movie was, nor the word "harrassment", they figured it was worth watching. They then put the VHS into the TV, and were greatly impressed with what their watching. Even Brock was surprised that Eddie nailed it. However, his popularity didn't last that long since Brock managed to get ahold of the tape, and got a classmate to make copies of it. So now everyone at school has a copy of the tape. Much to Eddie's dismay.

The next day, Jessica arrives at Cattleman's to try to inform Louis that they should install some flood lights at the parking lot to scare away kidnappers. But Louis, finally tired of Jessica's paranoia tries to get her to stop watching late night news shows. But before they can have an argument, Dusty interrupts them and he lets the other workers know about what the two of them are doing wrong if it was a sexual harrassment scenario. Jessica questions him why he was still here, and he explains that he is required to stay for a week until they are given a completion certificate. Louis and Jessica proceed to make fun of him in Mandarin, but that proved to be a mistake. Because Dusty knew, and spoke fluent Chinese! He expressed how hurt he was and wouldn't accept their apology even when Louis tried to make amends with him.

Back at Eddie's school, he found out because of the VHS tape, it caused all the boys to start acting suductively towards the female students. Principal Hunter was able to trace the VHS back to Jessica and Louis and told them that while their not in trouble. The school wants all the parents including them, to teach their kids (mostly the boys) about sex ed. He then gives them a textbook, and as they arrive home to a panicking Evan who lost to a game of poker to Jenny. Louis figured he should do the talking since Jessica did too much damage already. He went over to Eddie and decided to lecture him about sex ed from experience, rather than going through the text book. By the time the talk was over, Eddie was astonished and happy to learn everything from his dad. He knows that when he gets older, he knows exactly what to do when he has kids of his own. But his monologue gets interrupted when Jessica barges in to his room to "teach" him about date rape since Louis forgot to mention it. But after wrestling him with Evan's stuffed animal, she refused to apologize to him, but at least admitted that she may have went a bit overboard.

The episode then ends with the kids listening to Dusty Nugget talk about sex ed at the school assembly while performing a puppet show. That's when Eddie offered another sleepover to Brock and his friends to talk about what sex ed really is. While Brock tried to pretend they're not interested, Doug and Trent admitted they would rather spend time with Eddie then with Brock. Much to Brock's dissapointment.

Quotes[]

Eddie: If you don't let me go to that sleepover, I'm gonna stop eating.
Evan: Buddy...
Eddie: I overreached. I see that now.
Honey: Uh, are we still going to the movies?
Jessica: Only if there's something with Denzel. Movie theaters are a hotbed of disease. Nightly News.
Honey: Crimson Tide is playing.
Jessica: Start the car.
Jessica: At my family's furniture store, I handled employee grievances.
Louis: The employees were you and your sister.
Jessica: That bitch.
Louis: Jessica! Don't say itchbay in front of the K.I.D.S.
Eddie: Dad, we can spell.
Jessica: I'm confused why we're here.
Principal Hunter: Well, Mr. and Mrs. Huang, your son has showed a video tape to the rest of the boys at the school, and we have been able to get the tape and see what's on there, and it has turned out to be completely innocent.
Jessica: I'm confused why we're here.
Louis: "Flowers and Watering Cans." I can't believe this is how they teach kids about sex here.
Eddie: Dad, can you please just ground me or something?
Louis: Eddie... Half the reason I come to this country is so you could have lots of sex. What I mean is, Taiwan was so conservative. You couldn't really have sex before you were married. You didn't know if you and your wife were compatible that way. It was dumb luck that your mom and I were.
Eddie: Yo!
Louis: Sorry. Look, I don't want you to go out and have sex tomorrow, okay? But this? This is just gonna confuse you. I will tell you the truth if you wanna hear it. Yeah?
Eddie: Okay.
Louis: Hmm. Okay, where to start? This will sound crazy, but it's way better than video games. You know how sneezes feel really satisfying in a weird way?
Louis: Stay away from Arkansas. They outlawed all the fun stuff.
Louis: Spring break, my God. I am so excited for you. I might come with.
Louis: That's a great question. I say maybe you burn about 200 calories?
Louis: If you pretend like you have a bad back, you don't have to do so much work.
Louis: Three words... old National Geographic.
Louis: I like having the lights out so I can pretend like we're in a castle.
Louis: These are not the type of crabs Maryland is known for.
Louis: And most importantly, like we always say during the "S.N.L." monologue when a musician hosts, wrap it up.
Jessica: How'd it go?
Louis: Good. I went over the whole book.
Jessica: Did you tell him not to date rape?
Louis: What?
